You might be wondering who we are and why we are on this site writing about ourselves.
Well we are Westwood FC - a local football team based in Oldham
It was formed in 2004, with an aim to provide talented local footballers with the opportunity to compete at a good level of football.
Some of our players have also played under Shahjalal Unity which was established in 1989.
Westwood F.C hope to bring together the number of 7-a side teams across Oldham into a full squad which will enable them to compete in the local 11-a side Glyn Webb Sunday league.
Within the team there are a number of players who have played at a semi-professional level and also particularly our young star Nuruz who had been signed up by Oldham Athletics.
The experience within the team varies from ages 14 up to 35, and a number of players have competed in a 10-week tour of Bangladesh, and also at the UK Asian football championship organised by SASA (Scottish Asian Sports Association).
We are currently working alongside Oldham Council sports development, Peacemakers, Oldham Athletics and are affiliated to the Manchester County Football Association.
We also have a number informal links with other footballing teams and organisations across the UK.
The club would like to promote the local talent within the predominantly Asian area and in particularly the Bangladeshi community.
We are keen to continue the progress which has been made within the 7-a side teams, and also work in partnership with the relevant organisations to address problems and eradicate barriers in relation to access to adequate facilities and participation in sports as a whole.
There is so much talent out there and we as a local club want to harness that talent. One day we want to see a brown Beckham and to do this we need to work hard now.
There are barriers but it's up to us to break down those barriers and carry ourselves foreward.
